I had my monthly book club get together last night and I am happy to report that team “Book Nerds” took 2nd place during trivia night. Obviously we discussed the book before trivia night started – what book club doesn’t focus on just the book? Hehe. Admit it, we have all been guilty of going off course, but I guess that depends on how engrossed in the story we were.

There I go rambling again, ok back to the main event…

Unanimously we all felt the same about this book in general.

Book Club Consensus: Quick read and we were all committed to finding out how the story played out. Here comes the BUT: most of the characters were unlikeable.

Two families with 2 kids a piece go on a cruise, befriend another family with 2 kids. During an excursion gone horribly wrong all 6 kids disappear from their mothers’ sight. The choices each of the parents and children make up to and after the disappearance tell the story of what ifs. The interrelationships between the family members, spouses and outsiders, even between the kids are obviously affected and rooted in fear and resentment. This is certainly a nightmare.

It took me a bit of time to get into but once the story started moving I was hooked: I needed to know how it was going to play out. The reading moved very quickly as the Chapters were very short. Not recommended while reading on vacation, most specifically a cruise, other than that you should be good.

This is one I would not purchase, but borrow from the library or friend. If you felt otherwise, or agreed, let me know!

  1. It’s good to know I’m not the only one who drinks wine while reading 😜. Very interesting review, I agree it may not be the best choice while in a cruise. That will probably take away from the relaxiy experience lol.

  2. Great review. I do not mind unlikable characters and I am very intrigued and curious about this book, I might check this book out from the library first though. Thank you so much for sharing and putting this book on my radar.
