We chose to swap reviews of our current favorite reads of 2018 (so far). Enjoy!

Before we start, get to know a bit about Megan:

Megan is a 30-something (like me…age ain’t nothing but a #!) Christian author-in-training who is married to her very own Prince Charming and mama to two spunky, adorable, fun-loving, hyper, hilarious, strangely frustrating, beautiful kids who regularly keep her on her toes. Megan (again, like me!) is a #coffeeaddict and a lover of good chocolate. You can usually find her either chasing her kidlets or with her nose buried in a good book, trying to shrink her Tardis-sized TBR pile.

Urban fantasy is a very new genre to me. And especially witches. Despite that, I was blown away at how thoroughly I was pulled into the storyline.

Briana, Astrid an Kean were so well written that I really felt like I got to know them. I would have liked to see more of Astrid, though I am aware the book was meant to revolve around Briana and Kean. It always seemed like Astrid just faded into the background and I really enjoyed her character. She is one of those characters that I would love to see a spin-off for.

I liked Briana. Even though she seems like she’s losing her mind in the beginning, I liked how strong she got as the story went on. Her story arc was developed perfectly so that you felt for her in the beginning but were also kinda proud to see how she grew. And her and Kean’s relationship, as little of the book as it encompassed, was beautiful. *thumbs through thesaurus for better adjectives because these just aren’t cutting it*

The plot moved perfectly in this book. I also enjoyed the added mystery of trying to figure out who the killer / soul eater demon really is. He / It talks about the “host” right away so I spent the entire book guessing who it was. And when the poor sap was finally revealed, I was almost sobbing “no, no, no” along with Briana.

This book worked perfectly with my obsessive need to speed up the audio. And it was a good thing, too, because it runs just shy of 12 hours!

I loved the emotion Daniela Acitelli put into her narration. Especially when it came to characters like Briana’s grandmother, Ce-Ce.

The way she narrated it is stuck with me. That’s the type of narration I enjoy – the kind that isn’t so easily forgotten. She gave extreme personality to the characters, making them come alive for me, even beyond Gwen Mitchell’s creation.
