I absolutely loved this audiobook. Narrator Katie Schorr was perfection. I couldn’t wait for my drive to and from the Path train in order to be able to continue listening to the back-and-forth banter between Lucy and Josh. It made folding laundry enjoyable too: and if you don’t know, I detest folding and putting away laundry. Just thinking about it makes my skin crawl, but here I was doing multiple loads because I needed to keep the story going.

Two publishing houses merge forcing the CEOs executive assistants, Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman, to work alongside each other. They could not be more different: Lucy wants everyone to like her, she’s considered nice but a pushover amongst her colleagues; everyone fears Josh, he is all business, no nonsense. Lucy hates Josh, because she thinks Josh hates her: it drives her crazy. But, like your mom always told you when someone was being mean to you it was probably because they liked you.

They will battle for a promotion with both agreeing that if one of them gets it over the other, the other will have to quit. But, they still have to work together and play nice in the sandbox or they both can kiss that promotion goodbye. The tension between Lucy and Josh from the minute the book starts is ridiculously tantalizing. My competitive nature also kept me fully engaged.

There were a few times when Lucy would go off the rails, but you were never in an awkward situation for very long: both characters would quickly recover. There was no waiting multiple chapters for conflict to resolve itself – which gives me agita so I was extremely grateful – it would just be another conflict arising (but it was oh so addicting!)

I prefer to actually read versus listen to a book, but sometimes an audiobook comes along and the experience of listening to it gives the book more punch: that is this book.

I actually miss Josh – Joshua, Dr. Josh – that I am finding it hard to concentrate on my current read.

Have you read The Hating Game? What was the last book that you read that you couldn’t wait to devour? Do tell!

  1. Love it. Nothing can really make doing laundry fun but having a good audiobook to listen to sure does make laundry time less of a hassle.
