5 disco balls

Jodi Picoult is my favorite author so I know I may be a bit bias, but trust me when I say that this book was one of her most compelling and thrilling reads. She is known for addressing controversial subjects, but does extensive research to present both sides in an authentic, realistic way.
I stayed up way past my bedtime one night to finish up the last 50 pages and definitely suffered from a book hangover the next day…on top of lack of sleep (oops, not sorry though). But that’s what we do for our love of books, right?!
Wow, is all I can say about this one: Jodi Picoult fans will not be disappointed.
Like classic Jodi, she has this rational way of presenting both sides of an issue where you feel empathy for all characters whether you agree with them or not (she’s brilliant at this!) You may not agree, but you understand.
A Spark of Light is about a hostage situation at a Women’s Reproductive Center and how the lives of the hostages intersect all while winding down the hours: the story goes backwards in time.
After reading the first chapter I was SO tempted to skim to the end so I could find out what happened. I was anxious throughout and needed (not wanted, yes needed) to know the ending. I did not ruin the book by skipping to the end, so I whipped through it as fast as I could…not fast enough at times!
I finally finished it and was like “whoa!” The last two chapter my goodness gracious.
If you are a Jodi fan, you will need to read this. If you haven’t read a Jodi book, you will have to read this. Basically you need to read this. 😉

I’ve read three of her books: The Pact, Nineteen Minutes, and My Sister’s Keeper. While I enjoyed all of them, sometimes they tended to be a little too emotional for me. I might need to give her another try though! Looks like we both stayed up past our bedtimes for our reviewed books today!

Nineteen Minutes was the first book I ever read in one day.

I haven’t read Jodi in a while, but I always loved her for her ability to tell a story from both sides. This one is definitely on my TBR!

I will shamefully admit to having never read a Jodi Picoult book. But I do have a few of hers I plan on reading!
