Your reaction to “Manhattan Beach” is how I felt reading her “A Visit From the Goon Squad,” which I thought was pretty meh. I didn’t hate it, but I far from loved it. I keep starting and stopping because I am so afraid of the unknown. I want to finish it quickly, but my heart can’t handle the anxiety. Does that ever happen to you?
