Audiobook Review: The Last Black Unicorn by Tiffany Haddish

Comedian Tiffany Haddish made me laugh so many times even when describing painful memories. Her gift of humor shines through her narration of her own memoir.

Its a quick audiobook, one that will help quickly pass the time during longer road trips or doing chores around the house.

Many of her chapters were 5 disco balls worthy! There was just one chapter where she voiced a disabled man that she worked with and I felt it was more of a mockery than imitation, and it just made me a bit uncomfortable.

I appreciated the way Tiffany honestly opened up her life to us: the good, the bad, and even the ugly. She did not hold back. I thought the last chapter was a powerful reminder to never give up on yourself. The Last Black Unicorn is the most raw and genuine memoir I have listened to.

I definitely recommend you have Tiffany tell you her story. Not an audiobook fan or haven’t listened to an audiobook?: Memoirs narrated by the author are usually good ones to start with. This would be a great first one, give it a try!

“I believe my purpose is to bring joy to people, to make them laugh, and to share my story to help them. To show people that no matter what, they matter, and they can succeed. No matter how bad things go, no matter how dark your life is, there is a reason for it. You can find beauty in it, and you can get better. I know, because I’ve done it. That’s why my comedy so often comes from my pain. In my life, and I hope in yours, I want us to grow roses out of the poop.” ― Tiffany Haddish, The Last Black Unicorn

  1. I started listening to this one, but couldn’t finish. It was a little too detailed in some areas for my taste. But I really enjoyed the beginning. She is a fascinating person.
