Quick, cute read. I wonder if we are going to get a sequel…don’t fret, it doesn’t end with a cliffhanger (sorry for that light spoiler, you know how I feel about spoilers BUT I HATE cliffhangers even more). Pardon that interruption, we will now continue our scheduled programming:

Both lead characters remind me of a combination of Goonies characters. I’ll explain a bit later…

Nate & Kate (say that 10x fast) meet at work: a zombie-themed escape room. Nate is saving money for school, to help his parents, and whatever extra he has left…for video games, etc. Kate is hiding the fact she has a job from her dad to afford herself freedom. They team up to compete in a weekend long zombie themed survivalist competition with a big cash prize. Do they have what it takes to win it?!

A supporting cast of family & friends, rich classmates who mess with Nate, and a robot who babysits Kate, and you got yourself a LOL rom-com extraordinaire.

Now onto my Goonies comparison, hear me out:

img_2384

– Nate is the center of his crew (Mikey)
– He is athletic and dreamy (Brand)
– He is smart and an inventor (Data)
– His dad lost his job and the family is strapped for cash (the Goonies crew)

img_2385– Kate is a tomboy of sorts, she is smart, and doesn’t take sass (Stef)
– Kate doesn’t need to worry about $, but wants to enter a survivalist contest with her crush Nate (Andy)
– Kate’s dad is a Mr. Perkins type (Troy)

quick tangent: How much do you want to watch The Goonies now?! Ha! Does your version have the scene with the octopus or no?

The Perfect Escape is literally a perfect escape. If you are looking for a fun, heartfelt read, why not try it!

thank you Books Forward for my copy of this book in exchange for my honest review
