3 disco balls
This is my book club’s December read. I am looking forward to next week’s meeting with my fellow book nerds as I have a lot to discuss! For a sneak peak on my rants/comments, read more!
Single mom Nel, living in her childhood home, is ‘obsessed’ with a local swimming spot where several women have met their demise. She also meets the same fate, but how and why is the question. Her estranged sister has to come back to town to take care of her things, and is responsible for Nel’s rebellious daughter. We meet several characters who have either loved or hated Nel, and as you read on you certainly change who you think was responsible…if anyone was responsible.
First, I felt like it took me forever to read. It took a whole week, when on average I can read through a book in 3 – 4 days. I have seen a few reviews where others have stated how slow moving it was. Do not confuse slow with bad, the story is quite good actually. I felt like momentum kept building and there was much effort placed in keeping you on your toes.
I felt the author did such a great job of building upon the story that when I got to the ending I was disappointed: the ending felt rushed and its a shame because the book took such care in building this crazy web of characters. There were a whole bunch of unasnwered questions I had after I shut the book…which I will more than likely write up after Dec. 13th book club. Look out for a ‘After the Book Club’ post in the near future.
I would still recommend this book to readers who enjoy suspense books if you can borrow it from the library.
If you read the book and feel the same way, or feel differently, let me know!
