I LOVED this unique take on historical fiction. Also, for book cover judgers like myself…this cover is stunning! It’s easily become one of my favorites!
We meet three generations of women and a 60 year-old wedding dress designed with the iconic Grace Kelly wedding dress in mind; we will learn what this dress means to each one of these women. Who knew one dress could hold secrets, white lies, hidden lusts, heartaches, and new beginnings?
We start in Paris – 60 years prior – at a famous bridal atelier where junior seamstress, Rose, will create a stunning replica of the Grace Kelly dress for a wealthy, young bride. It just so happens she falls in love with the bride’s brother, but they’re from two different worlds and she cannot sacrifice her livelihood for the eventual heartbreak that would ensue: she will poor her heart and soul into this dress.
Next up are mother/daughter duo Joan and Rocky. Joan wore her mother’s wedding dress in the 80s and passes it down to Rocky for her upcoming wedding. Only problem…Rocky doesn’t want to wear the dress, and she doesn’t know how to tell her mother.
Each chapter alternated between Rose, Joan and Rocky (one of my favorite formats!) and their ties to this dress that holds so many secrets. The way it comes together in the end, I just loved it!
It was nice to read historical fiction not centered around WWII: I don’t know why I always associate historical fiction to that time period, I may need to expand my reading horizons. If you have any recommendations that are similar to The Grace Kelly Dress, please let me know!
In other news: Janowitz signed a book deal to deliver two books inspired by Liz Taylor and Audrey Hepburn. THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY! I love Audrey and Liz and can’t wait to add these books to my Hollywood starlet collection. Congrats Brenda!!!
thank you BookClubbish for my copy of this book in exchange for my honest review
