The bookstagram community wouldn’t stop raving about this one that when it was a Book of the Month June selection it was a no-brainer to choose. The synopsis sold a love story for Eleanor Oliphant fans so I couldn’t wait to dive in.
Wow, I was not expecting that. Right out the gate:
on the flame meter
Stella Lane decides to hire an escort, Michael Phan, to help her practice being better for future love interests. Keeping her Asperger’s a secret, she just wants to be seen for who she is and not a diagnosis. Michael Phan is on the job, his only duty is to complete his task, but Stella becomes more than his typical client: she sees him, listens to him, cares what he thinks. Things get messy in the emotions department for sure: miscommunication, misinterpretation, and secrets run amok.
Cue in the soundtrack to Pretty Woman and you got yourself the cutest love story – with a side of spice – I have read in a while.
It’s a quick read: I whipped through it in a day. It’s the perfect summer pool/beach/lake side read.
Have you read this too? Was it what you expected?
